What you can learn from our mistake with Callie

Over the past 18 years, our kids have been asking us for a dog. We always told them they can get one at any time if THEY are responsible for the dog. They buy the food, they take the walks, they pick up the poop, they oversee ALL the dog's needs.

Well, this past Christmas, the kids convinced us they were prepared to raise a new canine family member.

So, we picked up a hypo-allergenic Golden-Doodle and we named her Callie.

She's really a great dog. Mild temperament. Smart. Playful. Easy going. The only thing the kids underestimated was her need to be brushed every night.

Over the past 9 months, that nightly ritual fell through the cracks and Callie started looking like a groupie in a reggae band with dreadlocks all throughout her blond coat of fur.

These dreadlocks were not comb-able, so she had to pay a visit to the dog fixer-uppers. They said she looked bad, and it would take about 3 hours' worth of grooming to get her straightened out.

They underestimated the damage & it took almost 5 hours to undo all the 9 months of neglect. (See before and after picture above)

I've been telling patients for the past few decades that the adhesive scar tissue they come in with is a lot like having 'dreadlocks' or 'matted hair' tissue in their muscles.

When this 'matted hair' like muscle tissue is present, it traps superficial subcutaneous nerves, shortens the muscles, and causes pain.

Just like the groomer, we need to undo the 'dreadlocks' or 'matted hair' of their muscle tissue so it can function normally again. The more adhesive scar tissue is present, the longer it takes to resolve the problem.

Some patients that come to see us are in their 5th, 6th, 7th or even 8th decade in life and have never had their adhesive scar tissue addressed.

Imagine if we waited 8, 10, 12 years to pass by before brushing out Callie or taking her to the groomers.

If you or someone you know is suffering with some type of pain, it may be coming from untreated adhesive scar tissue in the muscles. Also understand the longer you wait to address this problem, the more complex it can become which takes longer to 'groom it' out.

When Callie got home from her pompadouring, she was acting like a new doggie - peppy, frisky, lighter, freer.

Our patients feel the same way when their adhesive scar tissue is removed.

I created a quick, short, home video last night to help you break up the scar tissue in your muscles if you are the DIY type (Do It Yourselfer) .
