Spaghetti And Meatballs Anyone?
Chiropractor Derek Taylor and Family

Recently we celebrated my daughter's 13th birthday.

She was in the mood for some good 'comfort food' so my wife made an amazing organic, spaghetti and meatballs dinner with garlic bread followed by a melt-in-your mouth tiramisu cake that literally took 3 days to prepare.

It was one of the best meals of the year and you would never guess it was all gluten-free.

I remember when I was 13, my mom made an incredible spaghetti and meatballs with garlic bread, too.

However, no one even heard of gluten back in 1980.

I ate it every day.

Wheat toast, waffles, pancakes, cereals like Apple Jacks, Frosted Flakes, Coco Puffs for breakfast.

Bologna sandwich on wheat bread, fruit, and a Hostess ding dong for lunch.

Pasta and bread for dinner.

No one ever connected food to how you felt and as a result, I suffered with a lot of GI issues, brain challenges and acne even into my late 20's.

I had no idea gluten was causing me to have all these health problems until I was in my 30's.

Our family has been gluten-free for over 10 years now and we have all reaped the benefits including improved digestion, improved brain performance, improved skin appearance, less bloating and more energy.

The greatest motivator, however, for us being gluten-free, is to reduce our risk for developing an autoimmune disease like celiac, diabetes, Hashimoto's thyroiditis, arthritis, and even Alzheimer's.

Alzheimer's disease affects one in eight people over the age of 65 and in the next 20 years it is projected that Alzheimer's will affect one in four Americans.

Gluten causes increased permeability in your intestines which allows proteins to enter the bloodstream and triggering the immune system to attack various parts of your body including your brain.

Try eating a heavy pasta/bread meal and see how well you think afterwards. Also notice if you are bloated, more tired, and if your joints or muscles ache more.

Along with eliminating gluten and dairy from your diet, here are the top three things you can do to enhance your body AND brain performance:

  1. Exercise - (preferably in your home with an air filter currently with all the fires and poor air quality.) Physical activity produces biochemical changes in your body and your brain especially in the parts of the brain associated with memory and learning.
  2. Intermittent Fasting - has been shown to increase longevity & improve memory by increasing autophagy which naturally cleanses the body as well as a host of other biochemical benefits that occur.
  3. Increase healthy Fat consumption - including organic butter (stay away from GMO butter such as Land O' Lakes and Altadena), walnuts, coconut oil and avocados.

Your body will perform as well as you take care of it and how well you feed it.

Make it a productive day by the wise health choices you make for yourself and for the benefit of others.

Have a Great Thursday!
