Last night, my three youngest kiddos and I headed over to Loggerhead beach for some Pompano fishing. It was one of those dreamy evenings-gentle breeze, warm turquoise waters, and a sky painted with puffy clouds.

One of the perks of living in South Florida is that we are in the fishing capital of the world. We picked up Pompano fishing after being at the beach one night as a family and witnessing several anglers loading their buckets up with Pompano.

Pompano are not only highly prized for their delicious sweet, mild flavor that you can grill, bake, boil or fry, but they are rich in protein and healthy omega-3 fatty acids which do wonders for your heart, brain, eyes, skin and even joints with their anti-inflammatory properties.

Now, despite our best efforts, the Pompano just weren't biting for us. But, wouldn't you know it, there was this guy right next to us hauling them in like it was nothing.

So, I decided to have a bit of fun and sent my son, Caden, a text. He is currently on semester break and in California visiting family. I sent him some pics and a video of his baby sister "catching" Pompano. Of course, he wasn't convinced and texted back, 'show me the fish' and right on cue, our neighbor reeled in a beauty. So I went over, snapped a pic of his fish, sent it back and bam…perfect timing!

Turns out, this master angler had a secret weapon-a specialized rig with floats on the hooks and some magical local bait called Fish Gum. Meanwhile, I was stuck with a knockoff version from Amazon called Fishbites that did zilch.

It got me thinking, just like in fishing, sometimes we 'miss the boat' in solving health issues by using outdated methods or the wrong approach.

Just like we were using the wrong rig and bait which caught us nothing, I often see folks trying to use ineffective therapies or treatments to tackle pain without any real relief because they have not pinpointed the root cause and used up-to- date technology to discover it.

Lesson learned though. Next time, we're hitting the water fully equipped for success.

But hey, even without the fish, it was a priceless evening making memories with the kids plashing in the waves as the sun dipped below the horizon.

Wishing you a Sublime Saturday!
