We’ve Hosted a Lot of Parties… But Never One Like This

My wife and I love opening our home for gatherings: Christmas parties, birthdays, fall women’s get-togethers, you name it. At this point, I think we’ve hosted more parties than some event halls.

But this week’s party was different. It wasn’t for a holiday or a birthday, it was for my son and daughter-in-law… and our new grandchild.

We hosted our first gender reveal party.

Everyone was told to wear the color they thought the baby would be, pink for girl, blue for boy. I had a feeling it was going to be a girl, so I confidently joined Team Pink. I think one person wore both colors, just to make sure they could say “I told you so” either way.

When the moment came, we all crowded into the living room, blue on one side, pink on the other. On the count of three, my daughter-in-law held up a teddy bear dressed in pink.

The room exploded with clapping, laughter, and a few tears as the news sank in.

After having eight kids ourselves, we always found out the gender when the baby was born (let’s just say ‘blue’ had a long win streak), so this was a first for us, but it carried that same sense of awe, wonder, joy, and laughter.

And as I stood there looking at the expression on the face of my son and daughter-in-law soaking in the moment, I couldn’t help but feel the joy rising in my own heart.

A new life.
A new baby granddaughter on the way.
And my son, now stepping into the same role I once stepped into, about to begin his own journey of raising a family.

It was one of those “full circle” moments in life that make you pause and reflect. The same boy who I would read stories to in bed at night and whose flag football teams I would coach is now preparing to hold his own daughter.

It made me realize how amazing life is, how it keeps moving forward, one generation after the next. Each new season brings its own joy and the story continues. What once felt like my role as a young father is now becoming my son’s, and before long, he’ll be passing those same values & lessons on to his daughter and in many ways, our health works the same way.

The same intricate design that allows new life to grow in the womb is also at work in each of us.

Our bodies were made to repair, restore, and renew when given the right support.

Every day, your body is working beneath the surface, regenerating, rebalancing, and rebuilding even when you can’t see it.

Sometimes we get discouraged when healing doesn’t happen as quickly as we’d like.

We live in a world where everything has a tracking app, except our healing. Unfortunately, healing isn’t a “Prime” membership where you can get same day delivery.

But just because you don’t see change right away doesn’t mean it isn’t happening. Like that unseen process of new life developing, healing often begins quietly, cell by cell, layer by layer, until one day, the results become beautifully clear.

Standing there in our living room, surrounded by laughter and tears of joy, I was reminded that renewal is always possible, in families, in faith, and in health.

No matter where you are in life, your body has been designed with built-in mechanisms for recovery, it simply needs the right environment to heal.

When that happens, the body has a remarkable way of healing in ways you didn’t expect.
